Has your VW lost first or fifth gear?

e've been reuniting VW owners with their first gears for quite a while! Repair the sloppy, damaged or missing relay ball on your year model 2000 - 2007 MK4 and MK5 shift lever with this innovative CNC machined Delrin bell crank relay socket. When your relay ball bushing develops a flat spot or disintegrates you will find that it is hard to get into first gear without pushing the shifter stick hard to the left. You might even readjust your shifter to enable you to get first and second gears but that makes it darn near impossible to get fifth gear. The dealer alternative to this repair kit is to buy a new shifter shaft assembly from the dealer for around $100 and then drop the exhaust, heat shield and shifter box to install it. To install this part you only have to remove the center console* inside the cabin and snap the part into the steel bell crank to the left of the shifter stick. Just make sure to remove what's left of your old relay bushing before you install this part.

Install Hint: The install video is the first one below. You will need to buy a high quality T25 Torx driver or socket to remove the pivot screw for the bracket that the FIGG installs into. The T25 screws are very tight and the heads are somewhat soft. If you strip out the head then you will need to drill the head off with a 13/64" drill bit. After that, the remaining shank of the 5mm screw will unthread easily. We are now providing an extra 5mm Allen screw in case you strip the head of the stock T25 screw. The replacement screw has a 4mm Allen drive.

Installed the first gear getter on my mk4 jetta vr6 and completely removed the slop on the shifter compared to the oem rubber. I also have the sigma 6 by diesel geek installed. Great product and would buy again - keep up the great work!

Very happy with the product and final results.  My shifter was showing the effects of the disintegrating factory bushings (slop in gear), so I got the First Gear Getter, Cable Saver and Shaft Bushings from DG.  Shifter is now much more precise, feels like new again.

By far the easiest thing to correct problems. Went by dealer was told 800 bucks to change shift cables. In fact nothing was wrong with cables. Needed this awesome product. Great  job guys

I bought these when I was doing a 02J/Polo shifter box conversion for my 3.6 VR6 Corrado. I had grabbed a couple of shifter boxes from the junkyard to try and get the best possible cables and half of them needed new bushings on the cables in the shifter. I'm so happy DieselGeek offers these parts.

This is absolutely wonderful. I had problems with first and reverse and barely would get into reverse when it did. I ordered this part when I got it took apart all my console stuff and saw the original Relay Ball was completely missing. Cleaned out where this first gear getter goes slapped it in and it works perfect. Was super simple to do, I now have no issues with shifting, First Gear Getter is great quality. Thank you so much for this part. It is Simply Genius!
