Here is THE fix for broken engine blocks in MK4 TDI's.:
This part fits all 1999.5 through 2005 Jetta TDI, 1999.5 through 2006 Golf TDI and 1998 through 2006 New Beetle TDI. This hefty billet 6061 T6 aluminum bracket bolts on to the back passenger corner of the engine block after the stock cast iron mounting hole for the engine mount breaks off (click for another picture). This bracket makes this part of the engine mounting system stronger than stock. Kit comes with three bolts to attach bracket to the block but you may want to buy the $15.00 "balance of hardware" bolt kit listed at the bottom of this page. We highly recommend that you clean out the 7mm x 1.0 and 8mm x 1.25 threaded holes in the engine block before mounting this fix due to rust being present in these threads. This kit will save you a lot of time and possibly an engine! Believe it or not, many cars have been totaled and many engines have been exchanged for new ones simply because this mounting ear had broken off.
Important Note for 1998-2003 TDI ALH engines only:
These engine blocks come in two different versions and can either have a "thin" broken ear that is about 1/2" wide (13mm) or they can have a "thick" broken ear that is 20mm wide (approximately 3/4 inch, click for picture). You must select the option during checkout that applies to your particular engine. If you are unsure about which ear thickness your engine has and you cannot physically check thickness prior to ordering you may order one of each and return the unused bracket for a full $49 refund if we receive it within 30 days of the initial purchase.
* Please note that this VanGogh bracket will not fit the later style PD block in the 2005.5-2006 Jetta TDI with the BRM engine. The BRM engine has a $75.00 specific bracket listed below.
* If you reside outside North America and are unsure whether this bracket will fit your engine, send us a good clear picture of the broken ear with the back of the block plainly visible and we will do our best to determine what you need.
