What can a Dieselgeek Panzer Skid Plate do for me?

  • Give Peace of Mind. The stock belly pan offers no protection against broken oil pans.
  • Save you money. Replacing oil pans, stock belly pans and sometimes complete engines is expensive.
  • Save you time. Have you ever lost an oil pan? It is a time wasting ordeal, especially on an Audi A4.
  • Help the environment. Hundreds of gallons of motor oil is spilled on the road every year from broken Audi A4 oil pans.

Audi A4 Spoiler protection:

We provide you with two self-tapping 6mm screws that allow you to anchor your front spoiler to the aluminum skid plate to prevent unwanted parking curb hooking incidents. Details of the fastening of the front spoiler to the skid plate are given in the install guide
here.

Installation and removal:

The initial installation of the Panzer Plate takes about 20 minutes and involves installing two large threaded, reusable OE rivnut anchors into the rear subframe with an included rivnut install tool. The other attachments include seven OE Dzus brand ¼ turn steel screws that fit far better than with the factory belly pan. All fasteners for the plate face straight down which makes it easier to remove and install than the factory plastic belly pan. Also, all hardware is rustproof steel hardware; no plastic fasteners are used whatsoever.

Reinstalling the Panzer Plate is as easy as slipping it in from the rear of the car. It slots just above the front spoiler on the outside edge and where the front Dzus screws are. When reinstalling the plate, you just keep a 10mm bolt with fender washer close by and thread it through the plate when it's in position above the spoiler. You then center the plate and run in the 1/4 turn Dzus screws and the two big 10mm bolts with washers. That's it, you're done. There are no more frustrating cheesy plastic screws and receptacles in the fender wells like with the factory plastic belly pan.

Oil Changes:

You will need to remove the Panzer Plate to change your oil as the oil filter is located at the bottom of the engine bay. Not to worry since removal of the Panzer Plate is easier than stock.

Ground Clearance and total weight:

The Panzer Plate has as much ground clearance as the stock plastic belly pan. The Panzer Plate weighs in at only 12 pounds. It’s a must-have for any Audi A4 owner!

Best Skid Plate for B5 Audi A4 December 7, 2013
Reviewer: GoremanX from Georgia, VT
I first saw an Evolution Thor skid plate on a B5 Passat at my local mechanic's, but I found it too thick and complex. It was made of 3 pieces, there were many sharp edges to potentially catch on things, and it seemed heavy.

So I did my research and came across this Panzer Skid Plate. It costs about the same, but made of a thinner gauge and all one piece.

Despite being a thinner gauge, this thing is solid. It's well built and looks gorgeous. Installation time was about an hour in my garage using hand tools and ramps.

I had an issue with the center fastener on the front edge. Dieselgeek assumes there's already a receptacle there from the factory and doesn't provide a new one. Mine was completely rusted. Didn't really matter though, everything holds together just fine without that fastener.

Very happy with this product. For a little more than a replacement plastic skid plate, I ended up with much better protection for my car just in time for the coming Vermont winter.

Nice Peace of Mind September 19, 2013
Reviewer: Patrick W. from Gainesville, FL
I currently live in a college town with some very worn down roads (aka tons of potholes everywhere) and I recently lowered my B5 ~1.5" all around so I purchased this Panzer plate to allow myself to have a peace of mind when driving around. I have yet to hit or scrape on anything after the install but I'm sure it would hold up quite well. I had the Panzer plate installed at a local body shop along with a list of other mods so I cannot say the difficulty of the install, but looking through the instructions it did not seem that difficult to install.

Overall, I would recommend this product since it is only a few hundred out of pocket and can definitely save your car from bottoming out if you have an aggressive drop/stance.

P.S. They also shipped it out fast!

Quick and Easy Install, 100% Worth It September 19, 2013
Reviewer: Conner from Seattle
I have been using my b5 panzer plate for just under a month now, and it has already saved me countless times. I have a lowered car so i need to be extra careful not to hit my oil pan, but this skid plate gives me more confidence. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone with a b5 because of the possible dangers of cracking the thin oil pan. Install took all of about an hour and a half from the time I jacked the car up to the time I took it down (While making sure everything was done absolutely correctly). Great buy, no regrets!

Saved my engine many times! May 24, 2012
Reviewer: PaulF from Turriff, Aberdeenshire United Kingdom
I live a mile up a badly holed farm track, and in 2010 smashed the alloy sump on my wife's Audi A4 2.5TDI Quattro Avant, costing £3500 in engine and turbo! (Yes, that's UK pounds)
I then decided to buy a Panzer Plate. I was so impressed with the service and product, I bought another one when I bought myself a 2.5TDI Quattro saloon.
One week ago, I managed to BEND (!) the plate going through some bad holes, so I have bought a replacement. The good news was my engine remained intact.
The plate arrived at my house in the UK within three days!!!
The only down side is the thieving UK government taxing me on my purchase.
I have a couple of pictures and a little info here
http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a4-s4-forum-b5-chassis/111973-2-5tdi-tales-woe-fixes.html
and would like to say THANK YOU Dieselgeek, you have saved my engines many times over! (Look at the dents in the fitted plate, each dent and scrape would be a busted alloy sump)
