There is nothing as important to the feel of your car as what you actually touch. This includes the seats, the steering wheel, and of course, the shifter. In the pursuit to make our own cars the best they can be, we have created the finest MK4 short shifter with the best materials, engineering, and craftsmanship to transform the way you feel about your car.

For all 2000 - 2006 MK4 VW Group cars, we are excited to offer you the best shifter we could possibly make, the new Sigma Shifter. The major difference between our Sigma Short Shift Kit and the competition is that our MK4 short shifter uses all aluminum cable ends with race-proven hardened steel spherical pivot bearings while all other shifters use factory Audi/VW plastic and rubber cable ends which were optimized for economically assembling a car at the factory. Since the OEM cable ends have rubber damping parts and large tolerances, the shifter feel of all other shifters is nowhere near as solid and as precise as our finest work, the Sigma Shifter. With the addition of our Sigma Shifter, your cars shift mechanism will no longer feel like a cable-operated shifter but more like a solid lever shifter from a high-performance rear wheel drive car. We designed the Sigma Shifter aluminum cable ends in the pursuit of shifting excellence and we succeeded! Getting the rubber out of the linkage has an unexpected and profound effect on shifter feel. The shifter becomes light yet very positive, giving the shifter an expensive feel that no other shifter can match.

The other difference between the Dieselgeek Sigma shifter and the competition is that our shifter is equipped with the new Dieselgeek Slider (see picture above). The Dieselgeek Slider mates the front to back lever with the side to side lever and controls left to right gate selection. Since we have redesigned the side to side lever to reduce side to side throws even more, the white plastic sliding piece was also redesigned at the same time from a very precise and long-lasting structural plastic material guaranteed to last as long as your car. The cheaper factory white plastic sliding piece found on all other short shift kits have large tolerances built in and is made of a plastic that will deteriorate over time and with heavy use. This makes all other shifters less precise as time progresses. We have eliminated shifter degradation permanently with the Dieselgeek Slider. The performance difference of our Dieselgeek Slider can be felt on the very first second-to-third gear shift you make. You will love it!

The New Dieselgeek Sigma Shifter has excellent picture-rich installation instructions here online (only) and is definitely a do-it-yourself mod for those of you who do not mind getting a little dirty. Every shifter can be installed easily within one hour and you don’t have to remove anything on the bottom of the car to install it. All parts install in the engine bay. Call it an automotive bonding experience!

* Each quick shifter gives an approximate 30% reduction in throws for both directions. Do not be misled by other tuners claims of offering more reduction. This is the maximum reduction the shift cables will allow before they get overextended.

* Side to side reduction is included with every shifter!

* Five speed Sigma Shifters fit all VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat 5 speed with chrome or silver shift weights. Seat and Skoda cars must have 1J0 711 051D or 1J0 711 051Q chrome shift weights (click for picture).

Will the Sigma Shifter fit my car?

Yes, if it is a Late car with a chrome shift weight as described below.

Early Car: Your car has a Black shift weight on top of the transmission. This includes all 1998 and 1999 New Beetles and all late 1999 GTI, Golf and Jetta. We no longer carry shifters for Early Cars.

Late Car: Your car has a Chrome shift weight on top of the transmission. In general, all cars of year model 2000 and later are Late cars. This includes all 2000 and later GTI, Golf, Jetta, and New Beetle.

Just installed my second Sigma Five in my second MKlV wagon.  I can shift through the whole range without ever lifting my elbow from the arm rest.  (It's all in the wrist!)

Thanks to Jim for helping out with supplementary instructions when I discovered that the locking pin on my transmission had been broken.  Excellent customer service, even on a weekend.

Shifter is amazing. The shorter throw completely changes how the car feels and drives. This is a very solid upgrade. Installation was very simple and took only about 30 minutes. The instructions and video online allowed my mechanic to learn the install in about 5 minutes.  Highly recommended.

When I bought my 2003 jetta in 2009, I was getting repetitive strain from hyperextending my elbow as I shifted in to and out of fifth gear.  I installed The dieselgeek short shifter and it went away.  Now my 2003 has been destroyed in an unfortunate collision with an even more unfortunate moose, and I'm driving a 2006.  The strain is back.  If I can't get my old sigma 5 from my wrecked car, I'll need another one of these. Absolutely the second most important upgrade to make, after a skid plate.

feels that it made the shift even shorter then my previous shifter.
